What is Spiritual Direction?

August 13, 2012

“Spiritual direction is: ‘a covenant friendship between Christians in which one assists the other in the discernment of God’s presence and contemplative living out of God’s call.’ The term covenant friendship implies the importance of relationship as core of the Christian life. We all need help from others in order to listen to and respond to God. Unaided, we often misunderstand and misinterpret our deepest experiences. Caught up in the whirl of events, we forget God or push the spiritual pilgrimage into the recesses of our lives.”  –Howard Rice in The Pastor as Spiritual Guide

Have you experienced this kind of spiritual friendship?
