Jesus Will Come Again, Week 1 Day 2

December 5, 2012

This week, we focus our hearts on the truth that Jesus is coming back. Just as prophets in the Old Testament looked toward a time when the Messiah would come, we look toward Jesus’ return. And just as the prophets of old called the people of Israel to be ready when Messiah would come, this week we pray to prepare our own family by creating room.

1 Thessalonians 3: 12-13 May the Lord make your love grow. May it be like a rising flood. May your love for one another increase. May it also increase for everyone else. May it be just like our love for you. May the Lord give you strength in your hearts. Then you will be holy and without blame in the sight of our God and Father. May that be true when our Lord Jesus comes with all his holy ones.

Love, strength, and holiness. What do these mean? Spend some time as a family thinking through these. Here are some suggestions/ guidelines to consider.

Love: What does love need to grow? (Think about what all living things need to grow.)  How can we show this growing love to others?

Strength of heart: What makes a heart strong? What makes a heart weak? Is this verse about our actual, physical heart?

Holiness: this verse says that love and strength of heart together make us holy. What does that mean? (to be like God)

As you are talking about the gifts God is giving, work together to create symbols for the three gifts that you are praying for. They can be simple or elaborate! Hang them on the refrigerator or near the door you use most as a reminder of your prayer.

Pray together again asking for God to give your family these gifts. Spend time in silence again listening for God’s response. Close your prayer with the words, “Come, Lord Jesus” spoken aloud together.
