Repent for the Kingdom is near; Week 2 Day 2
This week we eavesdrop on John the Baptist as he calls us towards repentance with the reminder that the God’s time as king is coming ever nearer. But what should we repent of?
Read together from Matthew 22: 34 The Pharisees heard that the Sadducees weren’t able to answer Jesus. So the Pharisees got together. 35 One of them was an authority on the law. So he tested Jesus with a question. 36 “Teacher,” he asked, “which is the most important commandment in the Law?”
37 Jesus replied, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Love him with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and most important commandment. 39 And the second is like it. ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’
This sounds a lot like our first week’s prayer to love more. When we love God first, and with all of ourselves, we leave room for God to work in us. And God at work in us looks like this: we love other people.
As a family, create your mission statement from these two commandments. Who will your family be and how will you live that out? Place that statement on a poster, sign, or as a picture where everyone can see it. Use it to encourage and remind each other who you desire to be.
Pray together: Holy God, teach us what it means to love You with all of us…all of our heart, all of our soul, all of our strength, and all of our mind. Will You continue that work in (name each member of your family)? Listen quietly together for a few moments and then pray out loud together, “Come, Lord Jesus.”
