What is discernment?

What is discernment?

It is one of the hottest words on the Christian market right now. Writers are prolific in their expressions of how to do discernment and that is not a bad thing. If anything, I see it as the church’s response to years of governing herself as a business. Suddenly, we wonder if this is how we were supposed to be functioning. I believe that the sudden interest in discernment is a healthy correction. But is discernment something only a church practices as a whole or is it for the individual too?

For our discussions, I would suggest that discernment is: continually choosing the way that leads toward God.    Center

How does that hit you? What do you know or wonder about discernment?

My vote is that individuals should practice it.
