A Prayer of Blessing for Father’s Day

June 15, 2013

May you be celebrated for you,

for your life of love and dedication.

May you be celebrated for love

poured out in pitches thrown and boo-boos kissed.

May you be celebrated for strength

displayed by controlled power, harnessed force.

May you be celebrated for tenderness

demonstrated in cradling sleepless babies and wiping feverish foreheads.

May you be celebrated for longevity and generativity

surrounded by those you have walked life with.

May you be blessed with examples of masculinity

worth following.

May you be celebrated as a follower

of Abba.

For the men in my life who I celebrate this weekend…

Reblogged this on St. Val the Eccentric and commented:
Father’s Day is…not my favorite. I was having a discussion this afternoon with a friend of mine — all those cards with four panels of sappy poetry and enough glitter for Liberace? Who even buys those cards anyway?!?!?! I was having a bad morning on many levels. I skipped most of the Father’s Day posts…and I’m sorry I skipped this one, it’s well-worth reading and unequivocally beautiiful. Blessings — VKS
