A Prayer for the First, Second, and Fiftieth Day of School

August 26, 2013

Today, like so many other children, my kids head back to school for another year of learning and growing. Here is what I will be praying for them over these next nine months:

Loving God,

May my children continue to seek knowledge that increases their wonder of You. May they question, be challenged, investigate, and relish this amazing world You have created. Grow in them the ability to hold faith and doubt side by side.

May my children discover friendships that feed their souls. May they find kindred spirits who laugh with them, cry with them, help them, and ultimately teach them about tenacious love. May they be the kind of friend who sticks through thick and thin.

May their heartaches be small enough to heal without deep scars and may their spirits seek solace in You.

And God, will You fill my heart with praise instead of anxiety? Will You ease the ache my arms feels as I practice this letting go again? Will You hold them each closely and protect them from harm? Will you, the One who created and breathed life into them, remind me that you Love them even more than I can?

God who is the eternal parent, be present for all of us. You hold our very lives in Your hands.

Thank your for your site. Your prayer today really touched my heart. I am a portrait artist of little children and this prayer meant so much to me. I put it on my website,, with a link back to your site.

    Thanks again,
    Vicki Popwell
